The engineering team at Art Morrison Enterprises has developed a new Multi-Link I.R.S. that fits into a tighter “envelope” and is ideally suited to applications where the trunk floor height is an important consideration. The cradle is 6-1/4″ shorter than the original AME Multi-Link I.R.S. and 2-1/2″ lower from the axle centerline up, minimizing the need to extensively modify the trunk’s sheet metal for clearance.
All the benefits of the original track-proven AME Multi-Link I.R.S. are present, including improved wheel control, superior handling under varying road conditions plus a significant reduction in unsprung weight and NVH (noise/vibration/harshness). It utilizes key components from the Gen V Camaro to achieve its svelte profile. The Multi-Link design is employed by many exotic sports cars today, and is far superior to early setups as typified by Jaguar, Cobra and C2/C3 Vettes (and mimicked by other aftermarket manufacturers).
AME’s new Compact Multi-Link I.R.S. is available in four track widths (55.5″, 57.5″, 59.5″ and 61.5″) and comes with a choice of 3.27, 3.45 or 3.91:1 gear ratios. The minimum wheel diameter it can accommodate is 17″ (with 12.4″ brake rotors) while rear ends with 14.3″ Wilwood rotors can take most 18″ diameter and larger wheels.
