Noted driveline parts manufacturer Mark Williams Enterprises has developed a one-piece 7075 aluminum slip-joint driveshaft for the awesomely powerful Mustang GT500 which incorporates the firm’s patented bonding technology. It has proven to be a reliable replacement for the breakage-prone OEM two-piece drive shafts with center support bearings shaft in high horsepower Mustang applications.
The new M-W driveshafts are made from exceptionally strong heat-treated 7075 aluminum alloy and utilize the Accu-Bond® process (U.S. Patent No. 7,485,045 B2) to mate the bond yokes to the shaft in a similar manner as in the firm’s SFI 43.1 rated driveshafts used by most Pro Stock racers.
Each shaft is thoroughly performance-tested in-house on a unique Torsional Testing Device developed by Mark Williams Enterprises. The shafts are tested to many times the torque load generated by the GT500’s supercharged powerplant, and are also dynamically balanced to G30 specifications that simulate actual operating RPMs.
The driveshafts come with heavy-duty 1350-series U-joints and custom 7075 billet aluminum flanges that mate to the Mustang’s OE companion flanges. It’s a simple bolt-in installation. Driveshafts are available for 2012 and earlier GT500s, and also available to replace the trouble-prone carbon/CV shafts in current 2013 models.
